Doggo did not enjoy it. In thirty years in the Bay Area, it seems like I could count the thunderstorms I’ve experienced on my two hands with a couple of fingers left over. This one struck at 4:20 this morning, was not in the weather forecast, and the contents of my shed were stacked up behind the house to be rained upon. So Mrs. Vandura and I ran outside and moved or covered the stuff, and sat on the back porch and watched the lightning. One bolt struck at what seemed like was less than a block away. This in the midst of an historic heat wave...

Even in places where they are common the doggos are not fans of thunderstorms. I can only imagine how much more scare he/she was than the dogs I'd grown up around who saw them from March - October inclusive. I hope you all get some peace and rest today.

Thanks. I have a Dad Chair in the living room and Doggo — Dogga, really -- goes and lies with her head under my chair. Looks like the storm has passed. Thanks, and enjoy your Sunday!

When I moved to Sacramento the lack of weather was very strange. I came from a place where you could be ho t, and frozen within a 10 minute period.

Be careful about letting her outside during them. Some dogs will be scared and run away during storms. Our dogs hated them even though they happened all the time here in Michigan. They would hide in the closet in my room a lot. One would be so scared she’d be shaking.

My dog Turkey learned from his mentor Kobe (RIP) that thunderstorms, or really anything for that matter besides fireworks, aren’t anything to be afraid of. Good thing, because they seem to come every other day right now.
Yesterday I got caught out in a storm with strong enough wind to immediately tear apart my new umbrella. No thunder, but lighting storms are extremely common here.

I spent time in Wichita falls, Texas, 25 years ago. In the space of a week there was 20° and 80°.

Our dog is bonkers and we don't let her outside. Unless we're with her.

That’s a bummer. We all get so used to fairly accurate weather forecasts and when it doesn’t turn out that way and something like this happens, you feel for the pup.
Yesterday we had an unexpected thunderstorm (with lightning) as well, which just isn’t common for coastal California. Our dog does not do well either.

You are an intriguing person . Based upon the correspondences we’ve had, the things you write of, and the fact that you use an umbrella, I enjoy trying to imagine you.

Feel for the pup. Well, yes... I have a complicated relationship with the pup. The pup is bonkers, and sees me as her play thing. She’s a weirdo. But she doesn’t stink.

Bonkers dogs can be fun, to a point.
Meant to ask, h ow’s life treating you as a Grandpa?

Usually I’ll just walk in the rain but I had one in the backpack I carry around (which I suspect was how every panhandler in the city pegged me for a Georgia tech student).
Instagram is controlled by Facebook, but I already had a different account and the platform really is well suited to this sort of thing. I'd check it out.
I’m pretty sure my face is featured on my OPPO hunt insta (whoisthelea der) and you don’t have to have an account to view it. For now, have a silhouette, if that helps you imagine me hehe.

It was loud enough to rouse me from my sleep even though I wear ear plugs to bed. However, the thought of it being a thunder storm did not even register in my brain. I thought it must be like a dumpster being dragged down the street or some other city happening I couldn’t be bothered to fully wake up for. Once I got up it didn’t even register until I checked social media. I went to bed swearing I was gonna be at the beach today!

Yeah here too, in Marin, it was hot as hell yesterday and forecast for a few days, we wake up and it’s cloudy and the ground is wet. My wife says she woke up from thunder, I have heard it this morning a few times. Sylvie does not care at all! My phone still says it will be 93 today, not sure that can still happen, thankfully. Humid though.

That gave me a smile. You might be about the age of my eldest daughter, who is 24. What's your major?
![]() 08/17/2020 at 00:29 |

Well, you’ve overshot my age by 5 years. Freshman in college with classes starting tomorrow (eek). Architecture is my major and I at least know what I’m getting into. Most freshman architecture majors very quickly discover that it isn’t for them.

The humidity was serious this morning when the sun came up!

Then you're closer to my youngest daughter in age. Have you had architecture work experience already? I think I'd be good at the CAD part, but I bet it doesn't pay all that much.

No, not at all. I’ve toured a few firms actually but I haven’t interned or anything. It’s the creative design combined with the technical skills that leaves only a few crazy enough to want to be an architect.

It was cooler here because we are closer to the coast in Mt. Tam’s shadow , but once the clouds went away the heat cooked the water and it was bad.
